Isaiah 40:31 NKJV

"But those who wait in the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles. They shall run and not be weary. They shall walk and not faint."

Girl Friend,

Do you sometimes struggle with a guilty conscience even though you know God has forgiven you? Maybe you feel you have done too many bad things in your past. That is a lie. According to the Bible, Jesus took what we deserved. In fact, He gave His life not only as our sin offering but our guilt offering. We are squeaky clean! This is called the Divine Exchange! So, if you are still carrying this guilt even after repenting, then this is an act of unbelief. When you do, you will lack assurance, hemorrhage faith, and default to so much condemnation, you'll cripple your walk with Christ. It is time to make a choice. Whose word carries more weight - God's or your own? Besides that, His Word is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance. Who can ague with that? He wants us to be a demonstration on this planet by being Cross-trained by His Word rather than being culture-trained by the world. The only way to live with a clear conscience is to be totally convinced of the miraculous power of His Word.

Scriptures

Hebrews 10:22 ESV Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed in pure water.

Revelation 1:5-6 ESV To Him who loves us and has set us free from our sins by His blood, and made us a kingdom...

So glad that Jesus took away all my guilt and shame!

Girl Friend,

In this New Year, a paradigm shift needs to take place. And I quote Lady Gaga's words, "Throw kindness like confetti"! Seems like manners and ethics are lacking in most circles of society. People are angry, frustrated, and seem hopeless about anything and everything. Just listen to their rant! What they need is a dose of the Word of God found in the teachings of Jesus Christ. He is the hope of the world. We can learn from Him how to live on this planet. We are commanded to respect authority, property, and self. His word also tells us that stealing and murdering are absolute no-nos. This attitude comes from knowing the All Mighty through His Word which connects Heaven and earth; and then putting into practice what He says. It really is for our own good. He did teach us to pray His kingdom come on earth as it is in Heaven. It is time to put into practice the fruit of His Holy Spirit in every domain - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. So let's scatter kindness like confetti!

Scriptures

John 12:46 ESV I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness.

John 17:17 ESV Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.

James 4:17 ESV So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him (her) it is sin.

Spreading kindness like confetti!

Girl Friend,

Because we are living in interesting times, we need to be well equipped and prepared in order to face obstacles we will encounter. It is a given! The Bible teaches us to put on our armor to thwart the enemy's bullets. This armor is not made of metal either, it's a spiritual one because the true battle is not against flesh and blood. What's more, the early disciples gathered on the Lord's Day, Sunday, to commemorate His death and resurrection. They were also looking forward to His promised return one day. In the mean time, they were doing life together regularly so that they would learn to walk out the Lord's commands to love one another, forgive one another, be kind to one another and the list goes on. These traits are not learned alone! It takes doing life with one another, being open and honest in sharing blessings and even brokenness, while at the same time building His kingdom on this earth. This is the good life, not the accumulation of prestige, wealth and things.

Scriptures

Ephesians 6:10-18 NIV Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms...Pray in the Spirit...

Dressed to kill!

Girl Friend,

'What the World Needs Now is Love Sweet Love' as sung by Dionne Warwick, one of my favorite singers. That is why God sent Jesus to the earth to show us a new way of living. He is the way the truth and the life and anyone truly following Him manifests that love. So what love are we talking about? There are three kinds, all are needed to function on this planet in order to be whole and holy. The first one is Agape, a form of love that is self-sacrificing, shown by always yielding to others first. The second kind is Felio, friendship, the type of love expressed between pals; thirdly, Eros, passion, as in a marriage relationship and covenant. We can love on all those levels because He is love and He first loved us by pouring that true love inside of us. This world needs a dose of Agape love, the God kind of love in all arenas. Enough of all this selfishness and narcissism we see all around us! So this Christmas Season, are you a lover? Does your demeanor, actions, and words depict that character trait? If not, begin to put into practice His love, whether people agree or not!

Scriptures

Romans 5:5 ESV Hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts.

John 3:16 MSG This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life.

I am a lover of God!

Girl Friend,

Are you in the grind or in the groove? That is, are you simply existing rather than truly living your dream? Your destiny is attached to your purpose. What were you made for? What is the engine in your heart that motivates you to do what you do? Are the desires altruistic or selfish? Are they to better and beautify the environment you are in or be a hindrance? Are the people around you blessed because of your presence or annoyed by you? Do you enjoy doing what you are doing or is it just a matter of getting a paycheck? You are gifted by God Almighty to fulfill a particular role on this planet. There is a sweet spot He wants you in rather than just enduring day in and day out till retirement. You are supposed to enjoy the journey you are on until that day you cross over into eternity. In the meantime, stick with the Lord. He has your life all mapped out for you in the right timing for everything. You must not allow circumstances to steal what is rightfully yours - spiritual and material. In this Advent Season, why not get back on track with the Lord so you can get in the groove in order to enjoy life rather than grind it out.

Scriptures

John 10:10 MSG A thief is only there to steal and kill and destroy. I came so they can have real and eternal life.

Acts 17: 26-28 NIV He determined the time and the places... For in Him we live and move and have our being.

Moving in the rhythms of His grace!

Girl Friend,

Did you know that you are God's gift to Jesus? That seems almost sacrilegious to say such a thing but it is the truth! You are loved and treasured by God. He has a plan and purpose for you that began even before the world was created. You are valued. You are special. You are not here by accident. You may think, 'how can He possibly see something in me when I am broken and at times such a mess'? We all have baggage living in this present evil age and that is why we need Jesus who is also our gift from the Father to help us overcome our circumstances and be victorious. We do this by living with an awareness of His presence, and experiencing an interactive relationship with Him by conversing regularly. It is doing life with Him 24/7. It is a lifestyle of being a true disciple of Christ. It comes from renewing our minds with His word, the Bible.

Scriptures

1 Corinthians 10:31 NIV So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

Psalm 25:14 NIV The Lord confides in those who fear Him; he makes his covenant known to them.

Romans 12:1-2 NIV Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices , holy and pleasing to God - this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

Practicing the presence of God in my life everyday!

Girl Friend,

What are you putting your hope in? Is it in getting a new house or a new car? Is it in finding that significant other you have dreamed about? Or whatever! You must not allow present conditions to define you even though it looks like nothing is happening. Life is more than wishing and hoping until that desire is fulfilled. Why not put your hope in the Lord! He will not disappoint you because He is a good God. Put your trust in Him. He will come through for you on time. In the meantime, instead of merely existing till that desire comes to pass, why not live a life that is pleasing to Him! When you do, there will never be any regrets. We must all learn to live life God's way, not feeling guilty about our past, worrying about the present, or in fear of the future. We have to learn to abide in Him, stand on His word, and walk in the rhythms of His grace. This truth will not be easy but it is worth every moment because of the outcome.

Scriptures

Romans 15:13 ESV May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace to believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

1 John 3:24 ESV Whoever keeps His commandments abides in God, and God in him (her). And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.

Psalm 25:2 ESV O my God, in you I trust; let me not be put to shame; let not my enemies exult over me!

Endeavoring to walk in the rhythms of God's grace!

Girl Friend,

It is Thanksgiving Season! It reminds us to be thankful for all the wonderful people in our lives, the things we enjoy and the freedoms we have. We should be celebrating this mindset all year long! I am especially awed at God as being the Creator of the cosmos who loves us so much that He sent His Son Jesus as a gift to the world in order to rescue us! How? By dying on a cross in order to give us purpose and make a place for us on this earth where we would experience a reason for living. He truly is the answer for this world! He is the One who brings order, peace and stability! No amount of education or politics can solve our woes! It takes embracing His ways to bring the Light that will change hearts so that people can have a godly perspective in this present evil age we live in. I have never regretted this choice to follow Him when He came knocking at the door of my heart. He has made my life full and I have lived a life that is more than I ever hoped or dreamed of.

Scriptures

1 Thessalonians 5:17 MSG Thank God no matter what happens.

Colossians 1:13 MSG God rescued us from dead-end alleys and dark dungeons. He's set us up in the kingdom of the Son he loves so much, the Son who got us out of the pit we were in, and got rid of the sins we were doomed to keep repeating.

Living a life of thanksgiving every day of my life!

Girl Friend,

Suffering is not a popular subject, however it happens to all of us; either through mental turmoil, physical illnesses, or through persecution. The Bible tells us to rejoice, not complain when we encounter circumstances like those. We can either live in fear or in faith. The choice is ours. What's more God said we would never have to endure the trial alone because He's with us cheering us on. He also puts people in our lives at the right moment to pray and encourage us. He uses the good and the bad to our benefit to help build our faith. How! By learning to trust His word because He always speaks truth. His desire is for us to come out on the other side victorious, not fail the test, so we can encourage others. He will never allow more than we can stand. Even Jesus Christ had to suffer before He was glorified. He went to the cross, endured all our junk so that we could be free, He saw all this ahead of time! He is our perfect role model.

Scriptures

Philippians 3:10 ESV That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and may share His sufferings...

James 1:2 ESV Count it all joy when you meet trials of various kinds...

Hebrews 12:3 ESV Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.

Romans 8:28 ESV And all things work together...

Trying to stay in His joy when trials come!

Girl Friend,

The Bible says it is more blessed to give than to receive. However in this age of consumerism, people always want. They are never satisfied, totally self-obsessed with the latest fads and gadgets. When people fall in love with Jesus, they experience a heart change. They learn to put others above themselves and they understand that life does not revolve around them. In fact, they are not the center of their universe - God should be! What a revelation of truth! When my children were little, I taught them to practice putting God first in their lives by praying regularly to Him and allowing other people ahead of themselves. I also trained them to trust Him with their allowance money by giving a tithe to their church. Many regard this as legalism or foolishness, but it teaches them discipline where money is concerned (God's purpose). It should never consume them, but rather they should control it because it simply is a means for living. God's ways work! They've been blessed - all their needs are met and then some! We should be givers to our local church and any charity that touches our hearts.

Scriptures

Proverb 3:9 NKJV Honor the Lord with your possessions, And with the first fruits of all your increase;

2 Corinthians 9:7 NKJV So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.

Being a giver and not a hoarder!

Girl Friend,

We live in a very busy society. Many demands are put on us that end up causing undue stress, and sometimes overwhelming us. We are forced to be a juggler, a performer, trying to balance all the roles we must fulfill. We have to wear so many hats such as: wife, mother, sister, baby sitter, nurse, homemaker, cook, answering-service, secretary, activities coordinator, entertainer, laundry worker, maid, chauffeur, citizen, church worker, not to mention the work outside the home such as a job or career. Whew! I am tired just thinking about these tasks and the list is incomplete. It is time to take a breather! It is time to ask the Lord to help us prioritize our lives and not forget our most important time which is with Him because He is our lifeline. He is the oxygen we need to live, let alone exist. Jesus is not a crutch, He is the Peace Maker who comforts our aching heart and calms our nerves; the Helper who aids us in all things; and the Guide who leads us. We must come to Him regularly and just sit in His presence and love Him.

Scriptures

1 Corinthians 14:33 & 40 NKJV For God is not the author of confusion but of peace. Let all things be done decently and in order.

Philippians 4:14 NKJV I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Acts 17:28 ESV In him we live and move and have our being.

It is the Lord who orders my life!

Girl Friend,

Do you sometimes wish things could be different in your life? Maybe you feel you have been dealt a bad hand! You are disappointed because the dreams you had have not come true? You look at others and they seem to have it all together and here you are, struggling and wishing for a breakthrough! Don't despair! You are in a race and sometimes you just have to pace yourself and wait for that second wind to kick in to give you that thrust you need to get over the ribbon at the finish line. What's more, the Lord has not abandoned you. He knows exactly where you are and what you are going through. He will help you finalize your course. He is the one that set you up before the foundation of the world and He preordained your journey for your benefit and His glory. He loves you so keep seeking His face by talking to Him and reading His word. He will sustain you! He will even cheer you on! You will look back on this time and realize He was busy behind the scenes.

Scriptures

Hebrews 12:1-2 MSG Do you see what this means - all these pioneers who blazed the way, all these veterans cheering us on? It means we'd better get on with it. Strip down, start running - and never quit! No extra spiritual fat, no parasitic sins. Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we're in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed - that exhilarating finish in and with God - he could put up with anything along the way: cross, shame, whatever.

I thank God I am not running alone!

October 19, 2016

Girl Friend,

Did you know that you were put on the earth at this time in history because God saw you in the horizon being a part of one or more areas of society such as Family, Education, Business, Religion, Government, Media, or Arts & Entertainment? In fact, He had His eye on you long before He even created the world, so He wired you in such a way that you would be a perfect fit. That is absolutely mind-boggling! The truth is, many people never discover this truth and settle for a mere existence. We were created in His image, so why not embrace His ways. It is in becoming one with Him that we truly find out what we were made for in order to fulfill our destiny on this planet. You see, we were foreknown, predestined, called, justified, and glorified through Christ. All these verbs are in the past tense. Ask yourself what motivates you to do what you do? In other words, what is your passion! Then, pursue it with all of your might. God will bring provision because He put that desire there in the first place. The product will be one where you make a difference in that place He wants you in - to beautify, bring order and blessing.

Scriptures

Romans 8:29-30 ESV For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son... And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.

So excited God had His eye on me for purpose!

October 12, 2016

Girl Friend,

What's on your horizon? What were you made for? God had something specific for you to be and accomplish on this planet. When I was a little girl I saw myself on the horizon as a teacher. He helped me to accomplish my desire even though I did not acknowledge His hand on me back then. I got to live my dream. Teaching is my passion. How do I know this? First of all, I enjoy it. Secondly, I was good at it because I saw fruit. Thirdly, I was successful. I earned my tenure after having jumped through the necessary hoops in preparation for this calling. The Bible says your gift makes a place for you. Fourthly, it provided for my livelihood - I earned a living at my craft. Lastly, I was recognized by the right people! They used my talent to train and mentor other teachers, write curriculum, and I received special recognition in my field. Why am I telling you this? I want you to see God in my life. He put me here just like He put you here. So what is on the horizon for you? It happens if you are one with Him. It's about the outcome, never the income!

Scriptures

Romans 8:29-30 MSG God knew what He was doing from the very beginning. He decided from the outset to shape the lives of those who love him along the same lines as the life of his Son. The Son stands first in the line of humanity he restored. We see the original and intended shape of our lives there in him.

So thankful for my calling in life!

October 5, 2016

Girl Friend,

Union with Christ means that you are in Christ and Christ is in you. So, you now have a new identity which affects the way you think and act. It stems from the redemption, freedom and renewal that came from accepting Christ's Kingship in your life. Your life story has changed. The old has been erased and the new has begun! You look different and your purpose has been intertwined with the Gospel, the good news! To fully live is to practice the awareness of being in Christ, and it comes from having an ongoing relationship with Him; by conversing with Him regularly, by reading His word in order to get to know Him better, and by depending on the still small voice of His Spirit inside you who is guiding you in all things. Too many people only become aware of Him when things aren't working out or they are in a crisis. Others simply use Christ as a curse word. He is a good God who loves you. He had you in mind before He even created the world. That is totally unfathomable! Life is all about Him being at the core of your being, and when He is, things work out!

Scriptures

Romans 8:28 MSG We can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.

2 Peter 3:18 MSG Grow in grace and understanding of our Master and Savior, Jesus Christ.

John 15:4 MSG Live in me. Make your home in me just as I do in you.

Practicing the awareness of being in Christ!

Val

September 28, 2016

Girl Friend,

Where do you find your identity? What is it you value most? Is it the fear of man or the fear of God? Do you live your life believing that you should be and do what you want instead of being who God created you to be so that you can do what He created you for? Does what people think about you matter more than what God thinks about you? These are interesting questions that every human being wrestles with. The truth is, that your identity is in Christ, and Him alone. The moment you accepted His kingship, you became His child, a new creation. That means as Father He alone determines who you are and His desire is to shape you rather than the society you live in shape you. His rule does have constraints but they are freeing, never abusive, condemning or dehumanizing. His ways never lead to anxiety, depression, or discontentment. Instead they bring unity inside you, unity with your spouse if you are married, unity in community with the people you attend church with, and lastly with whomever.

Scriptures

Colossians 3:3 MSG Your old life is dead. Your new life, which is the real life - even though invisible to spectators - is with Christ in God. He is your life.

Philippians 4:8 MSG I'd say you'll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious - the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; practice what you learned...

Having my true identity in Christ!

September 21, 2016

Girl Friend,

Did you know that all human beings are created in the image of God? This is a truth whether people acknowledge this fact or not. The moment you recognized God's kingship through Jesus Christ, you became His Child; and His Holy Spirit took residence in you to begin the process of transformation which will continue till you cross over into eternity. His desires, thoughts and deeds are replacing yours. You are becoming one with Him. The guilt and shame have been replaced with freedom. He has taken your old self and made you into a new creation. How awesome is that! No other God can do that. Now, we can live victoriously - no longer victims enslaved to sin. His Kingdom within us is being extended so that we now affect people and make a difference in the environment we are in. That was His plan all along. Live for Him.

Scriptures

Romans 8:1 MSG With the arrival of Jesus, the Messiah, that fateful dilemma is resolved. Those who enter into Christ's being-here-for-us no longer have to live under a continuous, low-lying black cloud. A new power is in operation. The spirit of life in Christ, like a strong wind, has magnificently cleared the air, freeing you from a gated life of tyranny at the hand of sin and death.

Living victoriously in newness of life!

Val

September 14, 2016

Girl Friend,

Who is shaping you? The world or the Word! Another way of saying this is that something or someone is molding you. It is either the society you live in with all of its lures through the media, entertainment, sports, advertisements, etc; or God's ways found in the Bible. The world majors on self-actualization and narcissism, whereas the Bible teaches you to put Jesus first by allowing Him to be at the very center of yourself. Some would say that God is too strict preventing them from having fun. On the contrary, I have found that following Christ has been the most liberating decision I ever made. When He rescued me years ago, it was like being reborn, like getting a second chance or a fresh start! I have never regretted that choice and most of all, He made me aware of my purpose on this planet. I have done more exciting things serving Him. Being shaped by this present evil age only brings chaos. Things may satisfy for the moment but then the loneliness sets in again and that's where it can be dangerous - many addictions have begun in that low point in a person's life. Christ brings order and peace and fulfillment.

Scriptures

Philippians 4:6-7 MSG In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.

Psalm 51:10 MSG God, make a fresh start in me, shape a Genesis week from the chaos of my life.

Thanking God for shaping me into His image!

September 7, 2016

Girl Friend,

Do you sometimes experience fear because of the circumstance you think or find yourself in? Does it even cause you to have a panic attack? That is, you are filled with dread and your heart is beating really hard! You think that as a follower of Christ, you are supposed to have your act together and not fear anything. That this sort of thing should not be happening but it is, and you feel guilty. As long as you are on this earth living in this present evil age, your humanity will manifest itself at times. That is exactly why you need God because He has given you a way to overcome when you feel like you are sinking in the mire or the waters seem to be overtaking you. You must turn to Him and His Spirit in you will encourage you. Some would say He is a crutch, but the Bible says He is our Helper. That is why you must lean in on Him and express your feelings to Him. He has big shoulders and He will not be offended if you doubt or question Him. He loves you. He will calm down your racing heart and give you His peace.

Scriptures

Philippians 4:6-7 MSG Don't fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God's wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It's wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.

Choosing by faith to trust my Lord and Savior!

August 31, 2016

Girl Friend,

What are you fixated on? Is it the political circus that we see 24/7 in the media? Is it Hollywood with all of its lures and lies depicted in movies and TV shows? Or is it the Lord Jesus Christ? The first two do not bring life. In fact they bring discouragement and disappointment. The Lord, on the other hand, always brings hope and encouragement. First of all, we have to acknowledge that He exists, and then immerse ourselves in His ways through His Word. It also means we give Him the reins of our life and allow His Spirit to steer us, and also by becoming part of a local community of believers in order to grow and be accountable. We must guard our eye and ear gates in order to diffuse the negative emotions we are faced with daily. If we don't, toxins will inhabit our bodies and disturb our peace and make us sick. The medical field has attributed many diseases with stress and anxiety we all encounter. The Bible says our bodies are temples of His Spirit, so we should take good care of them, for His sake so He can use us to expand His kingdom on this earth.

Scriptures

Romans 12:1-2 MSG God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life - your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life - and place it before God as an offering. Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead fix your attention on God.

Fixated on the Lord Jesus Christ!

August 24, 2016

Girl Friend,

Have you ever asked questions such as these: "Who am I? Why am I here? Where am I headed? What can I hope for?" You are not alone! They are valid questions because we are all on a journey. We all want to know the reason we are on this planet at this time. The only answer that I came across is that knowing Jesus Christ and having an on-going relationship with Him helps answer these specific philosophical questions. Before Him I had an idea. I knew my purpose was to teach but did not understand the scope of what all it entailed. He gave me the stamina to persevere and the faith to believe it was possible even when I did not acknowledge His very existence. He is the Creator of the universe. He decided before the earth was even formed that we would be on the earth at this time and in a specific place for a specified purpose. That blows my mind! He has already carved out a piece of the planet for you. He loves you, so stick with Him.

Scriptures

Ephesians 1:3 MSG Long before he laid down the earth's foundations, he had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of his love, to be made whole and holy by his love.

2 Corinthians 4:16 MSG So we're not giving up. How could we! Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace.

Enjoying my journey with the Lord!

Val

August 17, 2016

Girl Friend,

What is your primary motivation on this earth? Is it to be popular, be liked, and be successful? That is a narcissistic worldview. Our planet is in such upheaval, it is hard to know what to do or let alone what and whom to believe. It breeds fear, insecurity and worry. As followers of Christ, we have the answer. We have a story to tell about how the God of the universe chose us to be His mouthpiece so that the people would have a path forward. His MO from day one has been and is the harvest! He started in Genesis by saying to be fruitful and multiply; and Jesus gave us similar marching orders when He commissioned us to go, and make disciples. So, let's stop being politically correct and speak the truth in love with boldness. We have what it takes, His authority through His Holy Spirit. We must promote His Word, His Ways, and His Will. It is the Biblical view which endures through eternity.

Scriptures

Genesis 1:27-28 MSG God created human beings... Reflecting God's nature... He blessed them: "Prosper! Reproduce! Fill the earth! Take charge! Be responsible..."

Matthew 28:18-20 MSG Jesus, undeterred, went right ahead and gave His charge: " God authorized and commanded me to commission you: Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, making them by baptizing in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Then instruct them in the practice...

Loving being a follower of Christ!

August 10, 2016

Girl Friend,

Before I became a preacher of the gospel, I was a French high school teacher. I taught my students vocabulary, grammar, spoke to them in French, and even took some abroad to experience the culture. But it was not enough! For a person to be fluent, he or she would have to be totally immersed in that culture, that is, hearing it constantly and putting it into practice. I grew up immersed in the French and English languages - so I am bilingual. Being a Christian is the same thing. We cannot expect to reach the world if we are not fluent in the kingdom culture. We must walk it out - live and breathe it 24/7. How do we do that? We have to be diligent by talking to God regularly, by reading and putting into practice the principles found in the Scriptures, and by regularly attending church in order to remain accountable and grow in the faith. We are God's ambassadors on this earth extending his love to this present evil age. We must have a vision that compels us to reach out to people and share our faith with them. Many have no clue of what life is all about. We have the Answer: Jesus Christ!

Scriptures

3 John 1:4 NKJV I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

John 13:34 NKJV A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.

Walking in the love of Christ!

Girl Friend,

Did you know that God sees you and He hasn't forgotten you, whether you are sailing in smooth waters or fighting turbulent waves? If in the latter, you may be wondering why He is not answering you when you pray which causes you to question your trust of Him. You may even be quoting the Scripture ' that you can do all things through Him who strengthens you ' and yet you feel numb and bitter. He is listening and working behind the scenes! When Paul wrote that Scripture, he was in jail. He chose to face the disappointments by praising God and rejoicing in Him rather than get into moaning and groaning. He learned contentment - in lack and in plenty, and all sorts of persecutions. We should learn this lesson. I heard someone say that society wants us to be 'happy-clappy' but the reality is that we live in a 'crappy' world. Pardon the vernacular! We do live in this present evil age and there will be times when life is easy, and other times when it is difficult. This is when we need to choose to be joyful and practice the Word of God. We can all learn to trust Him. Doing things by the Spirit does not come naturally; otherwise we would have no need of a Savior.

Scriptures

Philippians 4:11-13 ESV ...for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound...I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.

Walking by the Spirit of God!

Girl Friend,

Jesus Christ is the ruler of the cosmos. He is and has authority over all, including us because we gave up our rights when we had an encounter with Him - when we repented and asked His Holy Spirit to come into our hearts. So, we must allow Him to reign in every aspect of our lives - our thoughts, our mouths, and our actions. That is a difficult task but not impossible with His help. We are constantly bombarded by our culture's lures; we are tempted by our own narcissistic selfishness; and lastly by the onslaught of the devil whose MO is to derail us from the plans and purposes of God. It means reading the Bible in order to know how to live rather than reading the paper or social media to see how people are living. Our post-Christian worldview needs a dose of Biblical truths by being followers of Christ bringing love, joy, beauty, mercy, kindness, peacemaking, repentance, forgiveness, and lamenting over the condition of our world. We must live in such a way by rejecting evil and cultivating Biblical virtues. We do this by practicing it in our families, careers, jobs, and wherever. Going against the status quo!

Scriptures

Romans 8:6 NIV The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace.

2 Peter 1:3 NIV His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through the knowledge of Him.

Walking in the world's opposite spirit!

Girl Friend,

By what standard do you live? What influences you the most? What guides you in all of your decisions? Is it God's morals, the Bible principles; or is it society's mores which change constantly and have no boundaries? Our Lord's Word is totally dependable, a sure foundation like an immovable solid rock; whereas the world is always changing like sifting sand breeding insecurity. God's ways and thoughts are so much higher than ours. He created us in His image whether people acknowledge that fact or not. He desires to protect us so that we are able to fulfill our purpose on this planet that He preordained for us before the foundation of the world. To our finite minds, that is unfathomable, but it is the truth. He is not seeking to box us in but rather to liberate us to be whom He's created us to be. There is a safety net and order with Him. The Bible is the best foundation for life, not what the politicians, pundits, or what comes out of Hollywood.

Scriptures

Hebrews 13:8 ESV Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

Hebrews 13:6 MSG God is there, ready to help; I'm fearless no matter what.

Hebrews 13:9 MSG Don't be lured away from Him by the latest speculations about Him. The grace of Christ is the only good ground for life. Products named after Christ don't seem to do much for those who buy them.

Rooted and grounded in Christ!

Girl Friend,

Our world is in such chaos. All we have to do is watch the news, and it's not good. Maybe it's causing you to feel trepidation, consternation and fear. You worry about the future, especially if you have kids and/or grandkids - how will they survive in this environment? As a follower of Christ, you are to set your sights on Him. He is the anchor to your soul. He is the author and finisher of your faith. He will keep you in perfect peace in the midst of all this turmoil. You are not of this world, yet you are in it. You cannot be isolated from it because you have to be a light; but you must insulate yourself from its lures by staying under His canopy of protection. You cannot put your hope and trust in the temporary but in the eternal. God is alive and well. Be encouraged. He is your future, and your present. Rest in Him. He will see you and your loved ones through!

Scriptures

John 16:33 ESV I (Jesus) have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart, I have overcome the world.

John 17:25 ESV O righteous Father, even though the world does not know you, I know you...

John 18:36 ESV Jesus answered, "My kingdom is not of this world..."

2 Corinthians 5:18 ESV All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.

Being a light in this dark world!

Girl Friend,

I pray that you not put your trust in military strength, financial might, or political power to solve your difficulties. The crux of the matter is that you put your trust in Jesus Christ. Crux is defined as: the decisive or most important point at issue! All things revolve around Him whether one acknowledges this or not. He is the very center of history - the calendar is set in accordance with His first coming, and He is coming again. He should be crucial in all of your decision-making because He holds the key to life. He must be at the center of your heart, mind and everything you are. It does not matter whether people agree with you or not, and even if they ridicule you for believing this truth. All you have to do is look around - our world needs the Lord. Those institutions I mentioned in my opening sentence have not brought lasting peace, financial deliverance or the right political leaders to guide our nations. We are not of this world, simply passing through leaving His mark so that others can see His light! Jesus is the answer and this is not just a pat answer or a crutch but the crux.

Scriptures

Isaiah 48:17 ESV I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you in the way you should go.

Psalm 147:10-11 MSG He's not impressed with horsepower; the size of our muscles means little to Him. Those who fear God get God's attention; they can depend on His strength.

Walking in His power by His Spirit!

Girl Friend,

Are you in a place in your life where you are so tired of the same old same old? Nothing fun ever seems to happen because it is so predictable and boring! It's like you are on a merry-go-round, going round and round and round always viewing the same scenery! Then, you are a candidate for something exciting! Why not get on the roller coaster for the thrill of your life - with its sharp spins, turns, rises and drops! You will definitely experience something new and fresh, something exhilarating! It's time for lifestyle renewal! It's time to take steps of faith - go for those unfulfilled desires that are imbedded in your heart! After all, God put them there. Maybe it's time to develop new skills by getting some training! Maybe it's time to change jobs! Maybe it's time to get rid of things that have kept you in that rut! You can with the Lord's help. He is your Savior, your Deliverer, your Guide, and the booster shot you need. He wants you in a constant lifestyle of renewal because He wants you to fulfill your destiny and be a light on this earth. Everything He does is always in the context of the harvest, His kingdom expansion.

Scriptures

Psalm 119:103-105 MSG Your words are so choice, so tasty; I prefer them to choice cooking. With your instruction I understand life; that's why I hate propaganda. By your words I can see where I'm going; they throw a beam of light on my dark path.

Walking out my destiny in a renewed lifestyle!

Girl Friend,

Are you going through a difficult time? Are the circumstances overwhelming? There's a commercial on TV featuring one of America's most loved pharmacies, Walgreens. Their tag line is: "You can find one at the corner of happy and healthy"! Their promotion is that when you locate one, their products will bring you health, well-being and beauty. True, they can bring temporary relief, a crutch or a band-aid. However, only the Lord brings lasting joy in the midst of ordeals because He is your Savior, Sustainer, Healer, Deliverer, and whatever you need Him to be. That is why we must all nourish our souls with His Word, the Bible, the book of life in order to stay sane! We must all cultivate our relationship with Him because He energizes us and brings us peace. We all need direction from His Spirit so that we stay on track. This present evil age we live in could so easily derail us from His will in our lives, not to mention our self-centeredness. God is a good God who loves us and wants to cheer us on. He wants us to complete our journey on this earth. So, let's trust Him rather than blame Him for tests in our lives!

Scriptures

Proverbs 4:20-22 MSG Dear friend, listen well to my words; tune your ears to my voice. Keep my message in plain view at all times. Concentrate! Learn it by heart! Those who discover these words live, really live; body and soul, they're bursting with health.

Living at the corner of happy and healthy with God!

Girl Friend,

I enjoy a particular show on HGTV, the Home and Garden Network, called "Fixer Uppers" with hosts Chip & Joanna Gaines. They are a dynamic duo who take old homes and transform them into a thing of beauty. Their tag line is: "We take crappy and make it happy"! She has an eye for what could be and he demolishes what was! He rebuilds and she redecorates! Our lives are like that; we need a Fixer Upper - God - to give us a vision of ourselves in order to find a path forward. But, before that happens, we need a demolition to remove the old accumulated junk in our lives; the hurts, the habits, and the hang-ups. Transition! Change! Two words that either propel or paralyze people! We all need times of refreshing in our lives because we get stale and set in our ways. We must allow God through His Spirit to walk us through this process. Our lives are never about ourselves! We have to be culturally relevant without being spiritually irrelevant. It's about reaching the next generation for God - leaving footprints for others to walk in. What a privilege!

Scriptures

Habakkuk 2:3 MSG Write what you see. Write in big block letters so that it can be read on the run.

Acts 3:19 MSG Now it's time to change your ways! Turn to face God so he can wipe away your sins, pour out showers of blessing to refresh you, and send you the Messiah he prepared for you, namely, Jesus.

Thanking God for all the times of refreshing!

Girl Friend,

Are you a carrier or are you constantly having to be carried? What do I mean? If you are a carrier you take time to reach out to hurting and broken people because you have the light of God in you. If you happen to be the latter, then you are high maintenance - always having to be pampered, propped up or pushed. It is time to grow up! Why not ask the Lord to empower you to become a carrier by learning to depend more on Him rather than always depending on people. He did say in His word that we can do all things through Christ! Why not put into practice what He says rather than just paying lip service to it. Why not obey Him and be in faith! After all, we are on this planet to make a difference! We are not here to just please ourselves! That would be narcissism! Let's rise above ourselves and be what God created us to be - influence for good the sphere He has put us in.

Scriptures

Philippians 4:13 MSG Whatever I have, wherever I am, I can make it through anything in the zone who makes me who I am.

James 1:22-24 MSG Act on what you hear! Those who hear and don't act are like those who glance in a mirror, walk away, and two minutes later have no idea who they are, what they look like.

Acts 17:26 NIV HE determined the times, set for them (us) the exact places where they should live. (and work)

Carrying the light because the Light lives in me.

Girl Friend,

Are you a person of faith? Do you live by what God says or do you depend on yourself or the world? It takes courage to obey Him. It means going against the status quo rather than going along with the crowd, the politically correct! You may even be accused of being too narrow! You might be persecuted for being a true follower and believer in Christ's teachings. So what! He is the way, the truth, and the life! I can attest to that! He was and is the game-changer in my life. Everything I do and believe hinges on Him. He has brought love, joy, peace, order, and so much more into my life. I would not want to even imagine what life would be like without Him in it. Christ first relayed the baton to His disciples and now it has come to us. He wants to use us to build His Kingdom on this planet. What a privilege to be called by Him to bring this about. He has given us power through His Holy Spirit to be a game-changer for many people in the sphere of influence He has placed us in. We may be the only Living Bible people are reading! remains.

Scriptures

John 14:6 ESV "I am the way, and the truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

Acts 1:8 ESV But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem (your home town) and in all Judea (your state or province) and Samaria (your nation), and to the ends of the earth.

Honored to be a game-changer for Christ Jesus!

Girl Friend,

What manual do you live by? Where do you get your instructions to function on this planet? Life can be so challenging, it is hard to know what to do and better yet whom to trust. Is it the Bible, self-help books, the newspaper, Facebook, or People magazine? We all live by something, and we all want to be successful and flourish with our family and friends! I would like to suggest you choose the Bible - its acronym stands for 'basic instructions before leaving earth'! We will all face our Maker one day, so why not read His Word because it is filled with truth - how to live, have peace, strength, wisdom, joy, health, and so much more. We live in a world that is forever changing, only the Lord remains constant, and because of that we can trust Him with everything we are and have. His Word truly is an anchor to our soul. He alone is the Savior and Creator of the universe. He is the Word made flesh. Why not hook up with Him! You may be accused of being a Bible thumper - who cares! All people have to do is look at your life since you've been following Christ and His Word and see the fruit - fruit that remains.

Scriptures

John 1:1 ESV In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Hebrews 6:19 ESV We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as forerunner...

Love living by God's Word - it is my anchor!

Girl Friend,

What's your story? What footprints are you leaving behind for your family to walk in? Would you want them to walk in those same steps or would you prefer they took another route? How are they seeing you react or respond to people and circumstances in your life? Are you losing it or are you in faith? It's all a matter of perspective! I choose to try to be a follower of Christ, that is, I am practicing righteousness - obeying His word. Do I always succeed? No, but I know my Lord is an always forgiving God who loves me, and a great cloud of witnesses who have gone on before me are cheering me on. That makes the situation more palatable. I can make it with and through Him who strengthens me. I am not a failure but a victor in Him. He causes all things, good and bad, to work for my good according to His will because He called me. He has given me purpose on this planet and I find my joy in serving Him in what I do best. Isn't that awesome! Why not make Him the Lord of your life. It is worth it! It is life, the good life!

Scriptures

Hebrews 12:1 MSG Do you see what this means - all those pioneers who blazed the way, all these veterans cheering us on?

Romans 8:28 MSG That's why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love of God is worked into something good.

What a joy to serve the One and Only true God!

Girl Friend,

If we are going to touch the culture we live in, we must be true followers of Christ and not be shaped by it. We can put our trust in Him because He never changes whereas the world system is constantly in flux breeding insecurity in people. We as believers should promote and communicate not only with words but with love and good deeds that the life of faith we live is the best life. The government cannot enact enough laws that will change people's hearts and bring about radical change in our society. Only God can do that because of His mercy and kindness. It takes a revived heart that can only happen through Him as Lord of our life! We are not merely here to occupy space, breathe the air, eat the food, and drink the water. Our life has to center around Jesus Christ, the Creator and Center of the universe, rather than our ego! It is a new mindset to live by! Why not promote the good life - loving and serving people! It is truly the most rewarding way to live!

Scriptures

Ecclesiastes 3:11 NKJV He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts...

Jeremiah 29:11 NKJV For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

James 3:13 NIV Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him/her show it by his/her good life by deeds...

Living and loving the good life!

Girl Friend,

Are you holding a grudge against a person or people group? Is it due to an offense or are you being influenced by someone? Regardless, it is called unforgiveness, a toxin that will hinder you physically and emotionally. The Bible says to guard your heart because that's where life starts. That means you must release forgiveness with God's help to those who have hurt you. We all live in this present evil age and we are never exempt from being bombarded or slighted by people. So instead of nursing this sore, why not practice the virtues Jesus taught His disciples - the Be-attitudes called Blessings which are really the characteristics we should all demonstrate as followers of Christ: humility, meekness, mercy, purity, being a peacemaker, thirsting for what is right, and not allowing grudges due to persecution. It takes strength from His Holy Spirit to overcome natural character flaws. Ask Him to fill you anew with His power so that you can walk in His truth. He is a good God who loves you dearly.

Scriptures

Proverb 4:24 MSG Keep vigilant watch over your heart; that's where life starts.

Luke 6:22-23 ESV Blessed are you when people hate you and when they exclude you and revile you and spurn your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man! Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven...

Praising God for His power in my life!

Girl Friend,

You are a part of a generation you are raising up with your life story whether you acknowledge this or not. Your family, friends, whomever are watching you! That is, they see how you respond or react in certain circumstances. So, are you satisfied with the results? Are your children walking out a lifestyle that most of all pleases the Lord and makes you proud of them? Are your co-workers blessed by you? Which one are you, a role model or someone to be avoided? You get to choose! You are affecting and infecting people for good or for bad. Do you have a plan which not only includes education, physical development, but the spiritual aspect - the most important part? You are on this earth to bring forth God's Kingdom, reconciliation in a very perverse world. It's people truly living for Christ who bring change in their homes, region, and the world, not religion. We are here for the eternal, not merely the temporal!

Scriptures

2 Corinthians 5:16-19 ESV From now on, therefore, we regard no one according to the flesh... Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come...God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation...that in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself...and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.

So glad God reconciled my to Him through Christ!

Girl Friend,

What is in your hand? What are you holding that is worth passing on to the next generation? Is it a legacy based on the whims of this world or on the truth of the Word of God? Will the baton you relay sustain them for years to come so that they can, when the time comes, to pass it on also? We live in a very turbulent narcissistic world. People are fearful and never seem to be content or satisfied with what they have or where they are. There is always that quest for the latest gadget, or the grass seems greener 'over there' wherever that is! It is a malaise that only the Lord can quench. He is the end all and be all of all! He is the author and center of the universe. He gives us hope and a reason for being. So what flips your switch? What is the motor in your heart that propels you on? Is it consumed with your future legacy or the present? Are you enjoying doing what you are doing? Will your family and friends see the life you live - your testimony, your story being written because of all He has done on your behalf? Pleasing Him means being a blessing wherever and with whomever!

Scriptures

Psalm 78:1-4 NIV O my people, hear my teaching; listen to the words of my mouth. I will utter hidden things, from of old - what we have heard and known, what our fathers have told us. We will not hide them from our children; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his power, and his wonders he has done.

Living for the next generation!

Girl Friend,

What story are you writing about your life? In other words, what footprints are you leaving in the sand for people to follow? Maybe I should say, would anyone follow your footsteps? We all tend to be obsessed with the here and now, when in reality we should be about eternity! What is your passion? What do you see yourself doing? It has to please God above all else, which means living under His canopy - having an ongoing relationship with Him and obeying His Word. What process are you going through? Will it cause others to believe in the Lord? Are you a witness of His goodness and love? Will it cause people to see you living a life trusting His will for you? The story you are writing reflects your life. You are influencing for good or bad! So, what product will your life reflect? It is never about just you but about leaving a legacy for future generations - your future kids, grandkids, etc. God is the Lord of generations!

Scriptures

Psalms 127:3 MSG Don't you see that children are God's best gift? The fruit of the womb his generous legacy?

Isaiah 59:21 MSG "As for me," God says, "this is my covenant with them: My Spirit that I've placed upon you and the words that I've given you to speak, they're not going to leave your mouths nor the mouths of your children nor the mouths of your grandchildren.

Isaiah 30:8 MSG Write it down...to instruct generations.

Living my life for my legacy!

Girl Friend,

Did you know that the Lord is the wealth and riches your soul is craving for? Maybe you do not realize that and you are substituting Him for someone whom you hope will meet your every whim; or things such as the latest gadgets, a new home or car, be popular amongst your peers, whatever, just to feel good about yourself and satisfy this longing. Things can never fill that void. Neither can people because they are imperfect beings who will end up disappointing you at times. Why not just rest in what God says about you in the Bible. It is not about religion but about a relationship with Him. He promised to provide for your every need, not every desire! He said He would never leave or forsake you. He loves you so much that He sent His Son to the cross to atone for your brokenness in order to give you a fresh start on this planet. Embrace His ways even if some of your friends may think you are over the top. Things and people are temporal in your life whereas the Lord is eternal. He gives you a pathway forward - nothing or no one can do that for you. That's the truth!

Scriptures

Matthew 11:28 MSG "Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life.

Matthew 6:33 MSG Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don't worry about missing out. You'll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.

Setting my soul on the eternal, not the temporal!

March 30, 2016

Girl Friend,

Who do you want to be remembered by? The world you live in or by the Lord? When Jesus hung on the cross, He found himself between two thieves: one completely mocked him while the other asked Him to remember him in paradise. What path are you on - one to make a name for yourself, or to be remembered by the Lord? The first one is temporal, the other everlasting! It is a question of choice! Who are you going to follow - your own whims or Jesus Christ? We are all born face down! We have to lay down our ways and look up to the cross and take on His way. It is the only way up! It is the path to complete liberty, righteousness and truth. He provided a way by exchanging our sinful nature for His. It is called the divine exchange, my bad for His good, and my selfishness for His selflessness! This is the Good News! He turns our life upside right! We are no longer upside down! What more do we need! He is the right direction to fulfill God's design He's had for us since the foundation of the world.

Scriptures

Matthew 16:24 NIV Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me."

Isaiah 61:1-3 MSG He sent me to preach good news to the poor, heal the heartbroken... Messages of joy instead of news of doom, a praising heart instead of a languid spirit.

Walking in the right direction - in His footsteps!

March 23, 2016

Girl Friend,

What is your main focus? Is it a person, a problem or an event? What seems to always be distracting you and getting you off course? First of all, it is time to look to the Cross because it is a game-changer! By putting your faith in Jesus Christ, He forever becomes your focus. There is no need to try to please people, fix a problem, or manipulate circumstances, just concentrate on pleasing the Lord. He will cause all things to work in your favor for His purpose. His light will direct your every endeavor. Life is much less stressful and simpler when we consult Him on every decision - big or small because He cares for us. When we do mess-up, He will provide the course corrections to get us back on track. He has destiny and purpose which He preplanned before we were even born. Now that is mind-boggling! How can the Creator of the universe do that for us? It is because He loves us that much. It is only by abiding in Him and allowing Him to abide in us by His word and His Spirit that we experience fulfillment on this side of eternity. Let's embrace the Cross. It is death and resurrection! It is power! It is victory! It is life!

Scriptures

John 11:25 ESV I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live.

John 1:14 ESV And the word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Walking in resurrection power!

Girl Friend,

Is prayer a daily exercise that empowers you to live victoriously, or is it simply one of futility? Or better yet, is it something you only do when things are totally out of control? In other words, it's the last resort; you are simply hanging by a thread hoping this circumstance will vanish into thin air! Prayer is communication with God Almighty. It keeps your relationship with Him sweet and fervent. It keeps you connected. In fact it is the oxygen you need to stay alive on this planet. As you pray you inhale God's wisdom and exhale the impurities you have picked up along the way. Prayer is like fresh water soothing your aching heart and confused mind. It can also be compared to the fire that burns away all the toxins that have accumulated in your system over time. Embrace prayer! It is your lifeline! It had to be a way of life for you, and because of it, you will reap the benefits: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faith, and self-control. You will flourish in whatever you do.

Scriptures

1 Thessalonians 5:17 ESV Pray without ceasing.

1 John 5:15 ESV And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of Him.

James 5:13 MSG Are you hurting? Pray.

James 5:15 MSG Believing-prayer will heal you, and Jesus will put you on your feet.

Living a life of prayer and enjoying God's presence!

March 9, 2016

Girl Friend,

Walking in truth does not mean a life of perfection but it does mean you're going in the right direction. That is, you have the way of life, the behavior that coincides with being a Christ follower who is abiding in His teachings and His word is abiding in you. This is proof that you love the Lord and have put Him first. It will safeguard you from compromising, denying Jesus or being deceived. We are called to guard our hearts because out of them flow the overflow of our lives. We are either going to be a blessing to those around us, or a stumbling block. What kind of witness are we called to be? We are called to exhibit His radiance and it manifests in the fruit that we produce. It truly is a love walk because of the One true God we serve. No other gods do that, and contrary to worldly opinion, not all gods lead to the One true God. Only Christ died and rose from the dead to experience life in its fullness for us.

Scriptures

2 John 6 NIV And this is love; that we walk in obedience to Jesus' commands.

Proverb 4:22-23 MSG Those who discover these words live, really live; body and soul, they're bursting with health. Keep vigilant watch over your heart; that's where life starts.

Psalm 34:5 NIV Those who look to Him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.

Walking in the steps preordained by God for me!

Girl Friend,

Do you sometimes find yourself pointing the finger, initiating gossip or even bask in feeling superior toward those who engage in wrongdoing? Stop! The bottom line is that they have no clue as to who Jesus is? They have no concept of God, maybe they were never reared in the faith! What a tragedy! But it is a fact of life. We all know people like that; some are our very own relatives. We must not be judgmental because we are not the court of heaven. If it were not for God's grace we would be where they are. We are simply commanded to pray for them because God loves them and wants to give them life. They are dead to His ways and we must declare life over them and live our faith in a non-preachy way before them. What an honor to fulfill God's plan on this earth! We have to remember we are here to expand His kingdom (His way of living) in every arena of life. We are to be signposts to the good life. We are His ambassadors showing the way, which is reconciling people to Him first, and then to one another.

Scriptures

1 John 5:16 NIV If anyone sees his brother (sister) commit sin that does not lead to death, he should pray and God will give him (her) life.

2 Corinthians 5:18 NIV All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.

So glad to be reconciled to God and to my sisters!

Girl Friend,

Many people think that being a follower of Christ means living a restrictive life not being able to do anything fun. That is the biggest lie on the face of this earth! Ever since I have become a Christian, my life has been so full. I have done things and gone places I would never have even imagined or dreamed of. Walking in the footsteps God preordained for me has been the most exciting and exhilarating experience. I have met all kinds of people from various cultures, gone to many nations, and shown and taught them the love of Christ who alone brings true freedom. He is the true liberator, especially for women because all other 'religions' want to discriminate against them and push them to the background. That is bondage! Girl Friend, I implore you! Accept Christ as a way of life, not just a declaration and then live the way you want to. Embrace His ways and you will find the liberty you are so yearning for. Believe in Him and you will have peace of mind. Allow Him to truly be the center of who you are. You will see results - good ones because He loves you and is wooing you in order to have a relationship with you. Say yes!

Scriptures

James 3:13 MSG Do you want to be counted as wise, to build a reputation for wisdom? Here's what you do: Live well, live wisely, live humbly.

1 John 5:11 MSG This is the testimony in essence: God gave us eternal life; the life is in his Son.

Living the abundant life!

Girl Friend,

Do you sometimes feel like you are stumbling or groping around in the dark? It's as though you've lost your sure footing! Maybe it's because you did not follow through on what the Lord was leading you to do. It's time to stop resisting - and confess sin or any wrongdoing such as jealousy, envy, strife, or whatever which hinder your walk with Him. It's time to forgive people and yourself. You must let those things go because they keep you captive, preventing you from being whom God created you to be. We all have to fight against the schemes of the devil, the whims of our own flesh, and the lures of this world that trip us up. It is all because of what happened in Eden long ago, but thanks be to God, we don't have to remain in that condition because the Great Liberator, Jesus Christ, has freed us! What more do we need! Let's stay yoked to Him.

Scriptures

Romans 5:18-19 MSG Here it is in a nutshell: Just as one person (Adam) did it wrong and got us in all this trouble with sin and death, another person (Jesus Christ) did it right and got us out of it. But more than just getting us out of trouble, he got us into life! One man (Adam) said no to God and put many people in the wrong; one man (Jesus Christ) said yes to God and put many in the right.

1 John 3:9 ESV No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God's seed abides in him...

Abiding in the Lord, my Savior & my freedom!

Girl Friend,

Do you sometimes feel like you are in a rut where nothing seems to be happening? Even your prayers don't seem to be answered! Maybe it is time to press the reset button so that you can re-orient your heart on what matters most. Maybe your focus has been on the circumstances wishing and hoping they would change and they haven't. You do have to reboot your computer at times so it will function properly. Why not yourself! Life happens sucking out everything - and you end up being skeptical, a malaise called middle class mediocrity, a Christian acting like an atheist - not a good place to be in! It is time to change your thought pattern by overcoming your emotions, your intellect and your feelings which mislead you. God has a path for you. Commune with Him & fellowship with the body of Christ - the church, the people - regularly. You will get back on track, be reset! God loves you! Trust Him! He wants you to prosper and be successful in this life!

Scriptures

Acts 3:19 MSG Now it's time to change your ways! Turn to face God so He can wipe away your sins, pour out showers of blessing to refresh you, and send you the Messiah He prepared for you, namely, Jesus.

Psalm 32:8 ESV I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you...

Proverb 3:5 ESV Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding.

Thanking God for all the times of refreshing!

Girl Friend,

Did you know that what you believe or don't believe affects the way you live? Life changing decisions can set you on a course that will either be for your good or for your bad! It is like a computer, input in equals the output! The result of your life! So what consumes your thoughts controls your attitudes and behaviors. So my question today is: 'Who or what do you believe in and really know'? Is everything you do hinged on your education, that's humanism? Is it based on your feelings, that's emotionalism? Or better yet on the Lord, that's Christianity? The first two put you at the center of the equation and the third one, puts Christ, the one true God of the universe who created you in His image. Why not put your faith in Him! He knows you best and has awesome plans for you. You are not merely here to occupy space but to build His kingdom on this earth by affecting and infecting your sphere of influence. So get to really know Him through His Word, and really believe in Him. I am not talking religion but an ongoing relationship with the Lord. He is the way to the truth!

Scriptures

1 John 4:15-17 MSG Everyone who confesses that Jesus is God's Son participates continuously in an intimate relationship with God. We know it so well, we've embraced it heart and soul, this love that comes from God. God is love. When we take up permanent residence in a life love, we live in God and God lives in us.

Living in God and God living in me! Awesome!

Girl Friend,

Have you often quoted to yourself and maybe even to others, 'I'm my own worst enemy'? You are not alone! We all tend to put ourselves down when we mess up. You should not listen to the whispers that say you are not a good mom, or you'll never meet the husband of your dreams, or you just can't seem to overcome that habit! Instead of putting yourself down, set your mind and heart on nobler things. The Bible tells us that we are not junk because God created us in His image, and even on our worst day He will never disown us. He loves us regardless of our flaws and brokenness. This should give all of us hope. The Bible also says that the Lord began a good work in us, and what He begins He completes. So, instead of looking at your mess-ups, look at your accomplishments! He is still working on you. I heard someone say, 'my test will become a testimony'! It might be the very thing that will encourage a friend, a co-worker, or whomever who is struggling. We are not alone. We need God and we need each other.

Scriptures

Colossians 3:1-2 MSG So if you're serious about living this new resurrected life with Christ, act like it. Pursue the things over which Christ presides. Don't shuffle along, eyes on the ground, absorbed with the things right in front of you. Look up, and be alert to what is going on around Christ - that's where the action is. See things from His perspective.

Having a kingdom perspective on this earth!

Girl Friend,

You probably have made lots of plans in your life. Some have panned out and others just fizzled! Hit or miss! That was never God's intention. He wants you to know specifically what He made you for, because He foreknew you and created you. That is a difficult concept to comprehend. The more your relationship deepens with Him, the more revelation you have of who you are and what you were meant to be. When you do, you feel life is worthwhile. The Lord wants us all to function in our giftings and callings which complement His plan on this planet. He does not want us to be misplaced, but placed firmly where He intended for us to be. When we do what we were called to do, we enjoy doing it and we are good at it. Success follows us. It is also our means of provision and support. And the right people recognize the gift in us. Wow! Isn't God good! He wants our joy to be made full. We have a sphere of influence - to beautify the earth - the same command He gave Adam and Eve. Nurture the earth! Be a blessing! And point people to God. He is the real deal!

Scriptures

Proverb 16:1 ESV The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the Lord.

Proverb 16:3 ESV Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.

Proverb 16:8 ESV The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.

Walking on the path established by the Lord!

Girl Friend,

Does it sometimes appear that other people's vines look a whole lot better than yours and you wonder why? They seem to be having so much fun and you feel you are missing out. Don't believe the lies of the evil one because he sugarcoats the world in order to lure you and derail you from God's plan for your life. Stephen Alexander defines 'world' as human society, temporarily controlled by the power of evil, organized in opposition to God. It does not mean you are not to love the earth and its people! You are in the world but not of it. You must chose to do the right thing; like be loyal, true, and steadfast to God, husband if you have one, family, job, etc. This is right! Nothing in this world lasts! Our flesh craves stuff, like revenge, desiring to be right more than valuing another person, gossiping, fame, possessions, and excessive food and drink. I could go on. Don't allow your flesh to contaminate you. Live for Jesus! He is awesome! He brings lasting peace!

Scriptures

1 John 2:15 MSG Don't love the world's ways. Don't love the world's goods. Love of the world squeezes out love for the Father. Practically everything that goes on in the world - wanting your own way, wanting to appear important - has nothing to do with the Father. It just isolates you from him. The world and all its wanting, wanting, wanting is on the way out - but whoever does what God wants is set for eternity.

On the path to eternity!

Girl Friend,

Did you know that your strength and enlightenment have a direct correlation with knowing the Lord? In other words, living by the Word (Jesus' words, way and will) help you to overcome in this world. Too many people are stuck in dire circumstances, broken relationships and utter misery because they choose to do life their way, just like the old crooner Frank Sinatra used to sing "Doing it my way". Life is so much less complicated when we allow Him to have the reins instead of trying to control every aspect. He gives us wisdom to live by from the Bible because He is wisdom. All the education in the world will not dispel the ignorance, the darkness in our souls, and the immaturity which cause us to stumble. He knows us best because He created us to fulfill His overall plan on this earth. So, why not follow His manual, the Bible? It is life! It is food! It is health! It is sustenance!

Scriptures

1 John 2:14 NLT "You are strong, and the Word of God lives in you.

Hebrews 4:12 NIV For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

John 14:6 NIV Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

Living by the manual, the Word, the Bible!

I served as a senior pastor for over 30 years, beginning as a student pastor of a rural denominational church while completing degree programs at the University of Memphis and Memphis Theological Seminary. In 5 years this small congregation of 35 grew to 350. For almost 25 years it was my privilege to serve as founder and senior pastor of Christ the Rock Church Memphis, a Bible based, Spirit filled, nondenominational, and racially diverse congregation. This congregation grew to over 2,000 members during my tenure. In 2007 I retired and turned the church over to our son Pastor Chris Bennett who still leads the church today. For the next two years I served as facilitator of the Church Developers Network and as an interim Global Missions pastor for the largest evangelical church in Memphis.

Upon completion of that assignment, my wife Valerie and I served as TV hosts for the "The Bridge" on the Miracle Channel in Alberta, Canada. It was the door that opened up our travelling ministry all across North America encouraging the Body of Christ. We are called to come alongside new and existing ministries to facilitate growth and vision through strategic relationships. We are available for ministering in churches and conferences, training leaders, and consulting with pastors and other ministry leaders. The feedback we are receiving is that our ministry is refreshing, practical and fun!

Now God has called us to be Evangelists for Christian Marriage. We understand that the goal of marriage is to be One which has been our life message in ministry. We conduct seminars in order to raise this standard. So goes marriage, so goes the church, so goes our culture!

Our 38 years of ministry include senior pastor, women's pastor, overseer of a Christian academy, overseer of a Bible school, facilitator of various ministers' networks, radio and television hosts, and travel to 35 countries ministering in churches and conferences.

John 17:21 NKJV "That they may all be one, as "You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe You sent me.

Born and reared in the French speaking section of New Brunswick, Canada I began my childhood calling as a teacher. I have a Bachelor and a Master's degree in Education and taught school for 19 years.

Fred and I have been married for over 50 years and our children: Chris and his wife Becky, and our daughter Denise and her husband Jeremy have blessed us with a total of 7 grandchildren who are the apple of our eye.

I was radically born again in 1975 and three years later my husband Fred and I were sent to pastor a Methodist Church where we served for 5 years. We founded Christ the Rock church in 1983 and passed the reins of leadership to our son in 2007 after having led the congregation for almost 25 years.

After 40 years of living and ministering in the USA, the Lord has granted me the desire of my heart to minister to my people in Canada. Upon retirement from pastoring, Fred and I co-hosted "The Bridge" on the Miracle Channel in Alberta Canada. When that assignment was complete, God opened a new door of ministry. With the eroding state of marriage, He has called us to lift up a standard for Christian Marriage. We are Evangelists for marriage God's way that is One For Life. We conduct seminars all over North America because strong marriages build strong churches, and strong churches affect the culture. That is the Kingdom of God.

Isa 59:21 "As for me," GOD says, "this is my covenant with them: My Spirit that I've placed upon you and the words that I've given you to speak, they're not going to leave your mouths nor the mouths of your children nor the mouths of your grandchildren." THE MESSAGE
